Bowl and Spindle Turning with Stuart Batty

A comprehensive 5-day hands-on class with Stuart Batty covering both bowl and spindle turning techniques. Students build strong foundations in tool control, grind creation, and the six fundamental cuts that form all shapes in woodturning.

What You’ll Learn

• Create correct spindle roughing, spindle, and 40/40 bowl gouge grinds on a platform
• Master the six fundamental cuts for spindle and bowl turning
• Broken surface pommel cuts for spindle work
• Bowl exterior shaping including broken surface cuts for irregular blanks
• Bowl interior turning with 40/40 and bottom bowl gouge grinds
• Optional day-five topics: chisel use, end grain hollowing, and negative rake scraping

Class Details
Students progress from spindle fundamentals on day one through bowl exteriors, interiors, and a full reinforcement cycle of additional bowls. The final day offers a choice between additional bowl practice or expanded spindle techniques. All skill levels welcome.
