    Woodturning Deep Textured Projects Series: Platters

    During the first part of the series, I will demonstrate how to create a platter, including how to mount the blank, turn an ogee-curve on the bottom, and shape the rim and center of the platter. I will then delve into the artistic aspect of woodturning and teach my techniques for applying a deep texture to the platter, transforming it into a stunning work of art. I will share the tools and techniques used to create these remarkable pieces, including gouges, scrapers, and power-carving tools.

    Woodturning Deep Textured Projects Series: Off-Center Bowl

    In the second segment of the instructional series, I will demonstrate the steps and techniques necessary to produce this unique work of art. Specifically, I will illustrate how to orient the blank in various positions to create an off-center bowl, employ the power carving tool to achieve deep texturing, and utilize various woodturning chisels and methods to shape the piece. Additionally, Scott will cover the process of sanding and finishing the bowl.

    Woodturning A Faux Ceramic Vessel

    I will demonstrate my techniques for transforming a block of wood into a stunning piece that will not only enhance the beauty of your home but also make a thoughtful gift. I will show you how to cut the blank on a bandsaw, attach it to the lathe, and use various woodturning chisels to carve and shape both the exterior and interior of the piece. We will then focus on adding colors by using simple methods for applying acrylic paints and achieving a gloss finish that resembles kiln-fired ceramics.
