I have wanted to work with wood since I was 14 and, while in shop class, made a walnut box with an etched inlaid mirror for my dad's ashes. Unfortunately, I was not fortunate enough to have a wood shop until recently. But now I have one and can't stay away!!
I have always been drawn to color, texture and movement in all forms of art. Wood hits all three marks for me. It has flowing, often swirling movement, marvelous spectrums of color, and exquisite textures. It is a true pleasure to take an inanimate piece of wood and allow it to transform into something unique, beautiful, and often functional. In other words, it speaks to my heart! In addition, I love taking wood that would otherwise be unusable and transforming it with colorful epoxy and resins to make a piece that has all the beauty of natural wood with accents of dynamic color.
Combining different mediums also excites me. In addition to working with wood, I have a love for making jewelry. Again it revolves around color, movement, and texture. When I take stones and gems with vibrant color and character and combine them with flowing wire it not only creates something beautiful, but develops amazing texture. In the future, I’m looking forward to incorporating wire and gems with my wood work to create truly unique art.
